“I remember the first day I walked into to 340 Crossfit like it was yesterday! There was a class going on but I didn’t know what was happening because there were no machines, just people doing different movements. Gus, the trainer, was very friendly and informative I told him I’d be back the next day to try the free class. From the first class I took, I knew crossfit was something I wanted to do!.

Fast forward 2 years, and I’m still loving it! At 340 Crossfit we are one big sweaty family, we all have our individual goals in mind and everyone pushes each other to do better and not to give up, even when you want to. We challenge each other to keep pushing until that very second that the clock ends. Since doing crossfit I have seen such an improvement in myself and not just the fact that I have lost pounds and inches, but the fact that my mental attitude and ability to push myself beyond the point of wanting to give up has improved. I went from barely being able to do a squat because I had so much knee pain from being overweight to now setting new personal records for myself in the Front Squat and Back squat movements, I went from not being able to run a quarter mile without walking, to competing in a 1-mile event in a crossfit competition in Puerto Rico. “One year and ten months ago, when I first ventured into 340 Crossfit, I weighed 235 lbs. I was extremely short of breath when I ran, I was tired waking up in the morning and most of all I did not like what I saw in the mirror.

It was hard starting at first, especially because I worked till 2 am and came to the 6:30 class every morning, 5 times a week. But when I saw i was losing weight, I was hooked and it became easier. Even though the pounds were coming off, I saw the real results at 6 months. I looked at myself and I liked what I saw, so did the ladies 😉

“I started at 340 crossfit in the spring of 2014 because I needed to loose weight, at the time my weight was 250 pounds. I could barely walk without going out of breath. And by the way, I couldn’t speak much English since I just moved to the island from Puerto Rico. But that didn’t stop the amazing couches at the BOX, Gus and Meagan, from working with me every day and even helping me with my English.

340 became my home and the members went from classmates to friends, to now my 340 family. The environment was incredibly supportive, everybody cheering everybody on and I don’t remember who told me this but it really helped me, “those days that you feel tired and you really don’t want to come, those are the days that you have to come”. And it’s not just the people and couches what keep me going, it was my confidence in coaches professionalism, the fact that you have a trainer watching your form, making sure you don’t hurt yourself doing the movement incorrectly is everything. It builds trust. They take the time to teach you and make sure you don’t have any doubts about the WOD’s (workouts of the day) and the structure of the class is incredibly amazing. After I started, I fell in love with it, soon I learned everything I could about nutrition and fitness, I committed to it and it improved my health! So far I have lost 80lbs and my journey hasn’t stopped. “I remember my first foundations class because it was nerve wrecking; I was hesitant about weight lifting or even worst “pull ups” because getting my chin over the bar was not on my list or so I thought. I was active even though I weighed 184Lbs but I was not in shape. That first night, I thought I knew how to do a proper squat from the number of exercise videos I was doing at home without the feedback of a personal trainer. Well, needless to say that after the coach corrected my form, I felt the soreness the next morning and that feeling got me hooked!

The coaches made a huge difference at how much I can benefit from each workout just by having proper form. I got rid of 31 pounds of fat and pull-ups are now part of my warm -up.
